SANCTODEFENCE

Sanctodefence, due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and metabolic regulation properties, provides protective action against systemic damage caused by chronic inflammatory states.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Through in-depth scientific studies on the phytocomplex of Ocimum sanctum, significant data have highlighted the important activity exerted by bioactive compounds of interest characterizing the herb. Among the main pharmacological properties associated with this plant are hypoglycemic effects, improvements in lipid profiles, and insulin resistance in cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and metabolic syndrome. In recent years, obesity has been shown to be one of the primary causes of systemic inflammation, involving various districts such as adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, liver, intestine, pancreas, and brain. The increase in the number of macrophages is one of the hallmarks of obesity-related inflammation, and their activity in adipose tissue leads to increased expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin IL-1β, and IL-6. Thanks to the glycemic regulatory, lipid profile-enhancing, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties of the phytocomplex, holy basil provides protective action against systemic damage caused by metabolic inflammation. These protective actions are primarily due to the main molecules characterizing the phytocomplex, such as ursolic acid, eugenol, and β-caryophyllene.
